New Coaches join GHOF PDF Print E-mail

Get Hooked on Fishing project leader Mark Fenty (pictured left) and Julian Taylor (pictured right) welcomes 8 new Level I NFA Coach's to the project.

From left to right:- Mark Fenty (Get Hooked on Fishing Project Leader), Andy Hutson, John Bromley, Ken Reader, Mike Gallagher, Simon Fursman, Tony Ellis, Steve Blake, Paul Power and far right Julian Taylor (Senior NFA National Federation of Anglers Official Since May the Get Hooked on Fishing Programme has assisted over 180 young people learn about the environment and take part in practical angling sessions. The Shoreline Housing Partnership funded programme is really making a long term difference to many young people and is also making a serious impact on local communities.

A new NFA Level I Coaching Coarse held at Oham Lake in Lincolnshire, saw all coach's pass their exams with flying colours. This now expands the number of coach's in the North East Lincolnshire Get Hooked on Fishing Programme to 10 Level II and now an additional 8 Level I coach's.

All coach's used by GHOF must have passed the NFA's exams and must also be in possession of current CRB, First Aid and Child Protection Certificates. Mark says the project will only use fully trained and qualified instructors who are able to deliver a quality programme of training and education to young people.

Mark will use all of the new Level I Coaches in practical training sessions only will a fully qualified Level II Coach who must be present at any session. Becoming a Level I Coach is a big step forward but a Level II has had to pass a much tougher exam which focuses on the young persons personal development and all of the techniques etc required to enable a successful outcome to the student / group. It is hoped that after an initial period of time all the new Level I Coach's will move towards Level II status.

Coach's are to be involved in one area Mark is very keen to develop. All Level I Coach's are able to deliver the new N-OCN accredited course in Angling and the Environment. Mark has been reluctant to market this great new 30 hour programme until the new coach's had passed their exams.

Early 2008 will see a concerted effort to sell the N-OCN qualification to schools, youth clubs, agencies and individuals in the area. The programme delivers real quality education in bio-diversity including aspects of science, biology, geography along with practical sessions the final one which would be assessed by and independent adjudicator.

More details and prices of new course are available on one of the other stories on the website.
