PEGS

In the centre of the lake is a small island. Currently the lake has around 30 pegs including some for disabled access. There is a current action plan to re develop some parts of the lake including the installation of some new pegs and hard standing areas. Some of the reed beds are due to be pruned back and the general aesthetics improved throughout the summer.

DEPTHS / FEATURES OF THE LAKE

Depths vary from the inside shelf approx 2.5’ to the average depth which is around 8 to 9’. Opposite the Conservation & Duck Feeding Area and beyond the island, the depth increases to approx 10 to 11’. There are 2 flat bottom plateau’s near to the island and it is a good idea to plumb up carefully to find the right level.

FISHING METHODS

Methods by locals tend to be for the bigger Carp and they tend use heavy duty rods and reels fitted with 7 to 10lb line. There are quite a few 20lb + Carp and reports of carp up to approx 28lb Main baits for the Carp are boilies / mussels / corn. The average size of the Carp being around 7 to 8lb. Spodding with particle baits such as Hemp, Wheat, and various Pulses does pay dividends over a period of time. At the time of writing (June) night fishing is allowed but this currently is being monitored closely.

Homestead Lake has been very under utilised by matchmen fishing for the smaller fish and the lake has now become a superb mixed fishery for the smaller species such as Roach, Rudd, and Tench etc. Maggots, Hemp, Casters, Corn and Worm will easily produce double figure bags of fish when the conditions are right. A whip can be used on the inside line with the pole and waggler methods working very well. Perhaps the Cage or method feeder could be used to find some of the larger fish.

RULES

There are many signs sited around the lake which provide the user with all of the rules of the Lake. There are however some crucial rules to protect the safety of the fish and of the public.

No Barbed Hooks

No Floating Baits (In organised match’s only)

No Carp over 2lb in any keep net. (Not in match’s either. They must be weighed and returned to the lake safely as soon as possible.

No Alcohol

As responsible users, it is expected that if anyone sees someone contravening these important rules, they should please report it to the Bailiff or any GHOF Officials who may be present.

Under no circumstances should you put yourself or any other member of the community is a situation of danger!
