mp59.jpgDavid Hanson MP for Crime and Policing visited West Marsh Community Centre recently. He was impressed with the work of the “Get Hooked on Fishing” and Sports Lincs “Football in the Community” Coaches and Apprentices. “The commitment from these young people is vital in reducing ASB” he said.

Comments - David Hanson - MP for Crime and Policing

"I was impressed to see the work of the community apprentices at the West Marsh community centre and the engagement with young people across the local area. This work is playing an important role in developing these young people's wider skills and resilience to help ensure they are on the path to success. The reduction in youth crime and anti-social behaviour in the area is a direct result of this work of the community apprentice programme, well done to you all."

Comments - Paul Caswell - Youth Diversionary Officer

"Sport Lincs is a multi agency project between Humberside Police, North East Lincolnshire Council's Cultural Services Department and Young People's Service, Grimsby Town Sports and Educational Trust. The project is sports and arts based and aims to engage young people in positive activities in an attempt to reduce youth related ASB, Crime and Disorder. It also aims to provide communities with activities when they want them and where they want them. We encourage local people to become involved in our volunteer scheme signposting them to further training and employment opportunities. Sport Lincs is a very successful project and this is down to local people working towards a common theme with agencies as support."

Comments - Andrew Milner - NELC Executive Director Community Services

"I am delighted that David Hanson MP, Minister of State at the Home Office, chose to visit North East Lincolnshire and see how all partners are working hard to provide positive activities and development opportunities for young people. The programme has had a very positive impact on reducing significantly anti-social behaviour. Particularly exciting is the apprenticeship programme which provides real employment and development opportunities - young people learning new skills, becoming coaches, making a real contribution to the community and importantly being highly employable. The programme is leading the way nationally, being recognised by winning a national award, and is a credit to the community of North East Lincolnshire."
