Q. How do I refer a young person? A. Get Hooked on Fishing (GHOF) works with many schools, NELC Agencies - Safer Communities, YISP, PAYP, YOT, YOS, Police and some PCSO's etc. In the first instance, contact to see if they are able to offer a placement as many sessions are conducted and funded by them.
Q. If they are not able to refer what am I able to do? A. Go to the GHOF website http://www.ghof-nelincs.com Register and you will be able to download the (referral document) from the Document Centre. Q. What is the age group? A. Primarily 8 to 19 however we do provide sessions for all age groups when necessary.
Q What does it cost? A. There will always be FREE sessions throughout the year and those dates will be displayed on the GHOF website. http://www.ghof-nelincs.com/ Most sessions will however incur charges as the programme uses fully qualified CRB checked and insured Coaches. Costs are discussed at the time of the enquiry.
Q So is the GHOF programme owned by the NELC / Shoreline Housing Partnership? A. No. The GHOF programme of a National Registered Charity and its main aim is to become a fully self sustainable 3rd sector social enterprise business. There are another 11 regional programmes. NELC and Shoreline are critical key partners as they have provided the programme with management and the finance to create a solid infrastructure for the future.
Q Is the programme only for bad kids? A. Absolutely not. Our core objectives are to engage, develop and prevent young people entering into any anti social behaviour. It is true however that the programme has had astounding successes with some young people who have entered the justice system or young people are simply looking for a long term health activity.
Q. What kinds of fishing do you do? A. We are on of the few programmes in the UK to deliver sessions in all 3 angling disciplines of Coarse, Sea and Game.
Q. Can my child achieve some kind of accreditation? A. Yes GHOF offers ASDAN, NOCN (National Open Collage Network), and other recognised qualifications. For some young people however, we have a range of GHOF Certificated Awards.
Q. Are there any other development pathways for the young person? A. Yes. We are always on the lookout to develop the young person into a Peer Mentor. After a period of close observation we may decide to offer that person the opportunity to become a Level I Angling Coach.
Q. Can parents be involved? A. We believe that parental or peer mentor support can be vital to the long term success of the young person. We therefore encourage as much support and welcome them to all sessions.
Q. Could I be an Angling Coach? A. Regardless of age or ability the programme is always looking for those who can work well with young people and have a basic skill in angling and the environment.
Q. Your coarse lake is based at Homestead Lake Immingham. Can anyone go? A. The lake is open for all 365 days a year for all to use and like all there are charges which are displayed on entry.
Q. Does GHOF offer any other activities? A. Yes. As the programme has developed, it now offers group and school, corporate etc - Environmental and pond dipping sessions, Photography and Video sessions, Laser Target Shooting and Archery. Q. So does the programme have a fishing club? A. GHOF has enabled some of our volunteer coaches led by Tony Ellis to create a Saturday morning junior angling club. It has its own constitution and although linked to GHOF it has its own autonomy. All sessions are at Homestead Lake Immingham 9am to 1pm. Age 8 to 11 years. By prior arrangement only.
